TRELLEBORG CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH LAUNCH OF NEW TREE-NATION INITIATIVE
Apr 22, 2022
In line with its long-term commitment to protecting the essential via sustainability improvement, Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation has planted close to 2,000 trees, capturing 850 tonnes of CO2 to date, in celebration of Earth Day on April 22.
Trelleborg’s reforestation efforts are part of a new, on-going initiative and strategic partnership by Trelleborg’s business area Trelleborg Industrial Solutions with Tree-Nation, a non-governmental organization that partners with individuals and companies to capture CO2 emissions by planting trees across the globe.
Richard Hepworth, President at Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation, says: “Climate change has become one of the most worrying threat to the world and there is a need for action. We continuously explore ways to provide solutions with a lower environmental impact and that help ports, terminals and other infrastructure to reduce CO2 emissions. Trelleborg’s goal is to achieve a 50% reduction in carbon emissions relative to sales by 2025 and realize our longer-term vision of being carbon neutral by 2035.
“In addition to this, we are committed to contributing heavily towards green investments and new initiatives, like the new strategic partnership with Tree-Nation. In addition to the 2,000 trees we have planted, we will be expanding our forest with a further 1,500 trees in the coming weeks and many more in the future. The volume of CO2 we will contribute to capturing will continue to rise, further strengthening our support in the fight against climate change.”
Trelleborg’s new initiative with Tree-Nation, has seen the creation of a Trelleborg Industrial Solutions forest. To date, this forest includes over 15,000 trees, capturing almost 3,000 tons of existing CO2 – a number that will increase as Trelleborg continues to expand its forest by planting more trees.
