By Richard Hepworth, President of Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation

Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation in the US recently held an educational three-part webinar series for close to 60 Moffatt & Nichol engineers and consultants. Designed to arm delegates with experience-based knowledge, the webinars covered Marine Fender, Docking and Mooring equipment, Ship-Shore Links and Navigation and Piloting solutions design and specification best practice.

Richard Hepworth, President for Trelleborg’s marine and infrastructure operation, commented: “Our passion for providing the best in technical education and training ensures that we are continuously looking for ways to improve our offering. These in-depth webinars were designed to equip stakeholders with the knowledge to specify smart, engineered solutions for port approach, berthing, docking and mooring.

Hosted by the President of Marine Fenders in North America Marc Thompson, Marine Fender’s Engineering Manager Jake Delahoussaye and Marine Fenders Sales Engineer Courtland Thomas, the first webinar in the series provided a brief introduction to Trelleborg, before showcasing the breadth of the company’s marine fender portfolio.

The session highlighted the key considerations when it comes to fender specification, selection, and design, as well as the importance of testing and how Trelleborg’s interactive online tools can support port owners in their fender selection, allowing them to create a ready to-use specification for the entire fender system. In addition, the Vessel Berthing Energy Calculation tool provides the user with minimum energy requirements based on vessel details, berthing scenario and speed parameters.

Trelleborg’s second webinar, which was presented by the Regional Sales Manager for Docking & Mooring in America, Paulo Carmesini, covered everything from the key fundamentals of mooring system design, through to conventional mooring systems such as quick release hooks and central monitoring systems. It also discussed how ports are using automation to extend their window of operationality with automated mooring systems such as Trelleborg’s AutoMoor and DynaMoor.
